From the 1983 press kit:

Scopdom Scop ('shōpdəm shōp) are three Midwestern experimentalists interested in producing nontraditional audiovisual projects. Obviously, this website does not do justice to them as filmmakers. It can at least suggest the freshness of their style. Their name is an original coinage from the Old English words "scōp," a title applied to ancient poets and satirists (etymologically related to the Modern English "scoff"), and "dəm", the word for "judgment" or "verdict" (related to the Modern English "doom"). A loose rendering of their name (and aim) might he "the singer’s judgment upon his art."
